“What’s wrong with me? Why aren’t I with my twin flame?” a client cried to me across the Zoom screen. Popular articles and TV shows had led her to believe that finding one’s twin flame is the ultimate romance story.
The term twin flame has gone from a little-known, beautifully profound concept — to a cultural phenomenon with numerous marketing ploys claiming to bring you into union with your perfect match. It has been portrayed as a highly desirable romantic concept and unfortunately, one that feeds into the rampant codependency hidden in relationship zeitgeist today.
But the truth is, for anyone who’s been on a twin flame journey a long time, they probably understand that this is an intense spiritual path far more than a romantic fairytale. And that not everyone has a twin flame. In fact, for those of us who do, it can be a painful path to tread.
